As you know, I successfully implemented teams at Alcatel before we met, but only after years of dead ends and wrong turns. I hired you at Sumitomo because it was obvious to me that your innovative team development process would have saved us at least two years and a lot of headaches. You helped us achieve record profits within two years of my start date, and as a result I was recently promoted from Director of Manufacturing to V.P. of Manufacturing and Engineering.
Your approach caused our associates to take ownership for cost reduction and quality improvement, as opposed to waiting for management to tell them what to do. The improvements happened quickly and our people enjoyed it. Many managers, including me, are turned off by inferior team development processes that focus on nebulous activities like meetings and getting to know one another. It’s okay to have some fun, but your process brought accountability and results.
