The process improvement and coaching concepts you helped us implement have been very successful. We’ve cut lead time from nine to four weeks, and that has been a big advantage in getting customer orders we would not have had otherwise. Our shop is also much more organized as a result of the one-day 5S sessions.
Although some of our improvements were top-down, many of them have been driven from the shop floor. Recently the guys running the work cells had some improvement ideas, so we got them together and moved equipment around and reworked the ducts and the electrical system until they were satisfied, and now it’s working pretty smoothly. Even the people in our rough mill have noticed that the material that they prepare disappears more quickly.
The benefit for me is the guys need less of my time. We’ve moved closer to one-piece flow with a first-in first-out system and that has taken the pressure off the production line. It works better because it’s not as clogged up as it was.
Your consultants (Tom and Roger) were very good. Your approach made common sense to us. Before we hired you we interviewed some other folks that were less money but we didn’t think they would get done what we wanted to get done. You did. We’re glad we brought you in.
