Your help has made a huge difference for us. We’ve been able to increase our volume by 40% without adding any additional people, and I do not have to manage things on a day-to-day basis. That speaks for itself.
As you know, I am responsible for 65 people spread across six completely different departments. When they cut back on management here, my responsibilities increased and I no longer had time to tell my people what to do. They would come to me and say, “Rick what do I need to do?” Now when something needs to be done, they step up to the plate and do it. They don’t need to get permission from six different people. If they don’t know what to do, they figure it out together.
I really liked that you and Tom Doane treated my people as people and not as workers on the line. You didn’t teach them as much as help them to think together to improve their processes. All my guys afterwards came back and said, "Those guys are really cool. They had a good way of explaining what you wanted us to learn so we understood it.” The exercises you used just clicked right in. That was important.
What I’ve received from consultants in the past is a report that tells me what I’m doing wrong. You got my people to understand where we wanted to go, how to get there, and why it was a good thing for them. I’m talking to my boss now to see if we can use your help in other parts of our operation.
