"As you know, I successfully implemented teams at Alcatel before we met, but only after years of dead ends and wrong turns. I hired you at Sumitomo because it was obvious to me that your innovative team development process would have saved us at least two years and a lot of headaches. You helped us achieve record profits within two years of my start date, and as a result I was recently promoted from Director of Manufacturing to V.P. of Manufacturing and Engineering." MORE

Dear Mike,

Nine months into your company’s work with us, our key plant measures are at their best-ever levels. Our production rates are exceeding what we had believed was the capacity of the plant. Our reject rates are very low, and customer complaints have been reduced significantly. I have no doubt that your program has been a large factor in our success.

We asked you to work with us because had been moving toward self-managed teams for 3-1/2 years and our improvement had stalled. We recognized that our supervisors needed to be better at developing their people. The biggest selling point of your approach was the quantitative measures of progress. Rather than everything being soft, we had several real ways to measure progress. Tom Doane (our ECG consultant) is an enthusiastic trainer and a straight shooter. He lets you know where things stand and he is honest about it.

Internally, we’ve seen an increase in employee satisfaction. Our people have more enthusiasm for their jobs. They are working for a common goal and actually have input into how that goal is achieved. Your program has actually forced some individuals to grow, and although some people might not believe it, it was in their best interest in the long run. Personally, I have more time now because I’m spending less time stepping in to solve problems that should be handled at lower levels in the organization.

It’s more fun to come and work at a place where people are happy and motivated and pleased to work. Certainly ECG has been quite a big help in taking us to this new level.

Sincerely,

Vicky Will
Plant Manager
