Dear Mike,
You asked me about the results we experienced as a result of your firm’s work with our supervisors in their areas. Here is a brief review:
Polar Bear productivity is up 40%. We increased production from 5,000 to 7,000 pairs of gloves per day with the same number of people. WIP inventory is down 7,500 pairs.
Terry productivity is up 35%, and we reduced WIP inventory from 65,000 to 12,000 pairs.
In Plant 9 WIP is down by 20,000 pairs. The productivity improvement is difficult to measure due to the recent changes in volume in that area, but the product is definitely flowing more efficiently. The best part of your program was how your consultants involved our production associates and how they took ownership of it. Our people didn’t see this as being a top-down management program. You helped us evaluate where we were and how we could get better, and we cut a lot of unnecessary work out of our processes.
Your work with us has made a big impact on our product flow, and the improvement can be easily seen. The absence of WIP makes it easier to see where problems are, and product is really being pulled through our plants instead of waiting in racks.
